The Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Board, Hon. George Kweku Ricketts-Hagan, has reaffirmed his commitment to transforming the Authority into a more citizen-friendly and responsible institution under Ghana’s ongoing economic reset agenda.

During a working visit to GRA staff in the Central Region on Tuesday, Hon. Ricketts-Hagan emphasized the importance of moving away from coercive tax enforcement methods. He stated that the days of harassing citizens to ensure tax compliance must be left behind.

“We must adopt a more empathetic, engaging, and transparent approach to taxation. Paying taxes shouldn’t feel like punishment—it should feel like participation in national development,” he said.

The Board Chairman, who also serves as the Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and Member of Parliament for Cape Coast South, encouraged GRA staff to embrace innovation and professionalism in their service delivery. He stressed the vital role of effective tax mobilization in sustaining government projects, highlighting it as the backbone of national development.

Hon. Ricketts-Hagan further pledged to reposition the GRA as a disciplined, committed, fair, educative, and responsible authority, adding that under his leadership, the Authority would eliminate revenue leakages and focus on operational excellence. He also announced plans to make Cape Coast the Regional Headquarters of the GRA, with proposed infrastructural developments aimed at boosting employment opportunities in the region.

The high-level visit included the GRA Commissioner General and other board members. The delegation made stops at the GRA Cape Coast-Pedu office, the Central Regional Coordinating Council, and the Emintsimadzi Palace.

In a gesture of compassion and solidarity, the GRA leadership also visited the bereaved families of victims affected by the recent building collapse in Cape Coast. The team presented heartfelt condolences along with a cash donation of GH¢100,000 to support the affected families.

This visit marks a new chapter for the GRA under the stewardship of Hon. George Ricketts-Hagan, one that centers integrity, public trust, and inclusive growth at the heart of tax administration.
